Different companies have different sales processes and the forms have been optimised to suit each organisation., where items are only available if they have the minimum expiry duration to suit the customer.  You can see stock on hand and expected stock dates to capture accurate orders.  Back orders are optional as you can simply short ship the order with what is available - but capture the requested vs actual stock qty.

Complex Promotions allow buy x get y at discount z across multiple item groups for example purchasing any three products of Brand K may provide a 50 % discount on another of the products from Brand K - and GL accounts can be impacted for supplier claims.
